Domenico d’Alessandro
(1985  Foggia, Italy)
Lives and works in Bologna

Domenico d’Alessandro (Foggia, 1985), graduated in International Relations and photography, since many years he is investigating the generative threshold of the image and its language through multiple practices, working solo and in collective. He experiments with translation practices of representations phenomena, with conceptual and theoretical research processes both documentary and staged, up to manipulating processes of matter. After graduating in International Relations at l’Orientale, in 2013 he obtained a Master in Photography in Rome at Scuola Romana di Fotografia. Subsequently d’Alessandro is the assistant of Agostino Iacurci, maturing an interest that concern not exclusively the photographic aspects of the image. Selected by Priz de Levallois in 2017, he is on display at La Gallerie de La Escale (Paris), Base (Milan) and Gibellina Photo Road (Sicily) with the collective projects “Boundary as a Frame” and “Creations”. In the past works the aspect of documentation is strongly present, contrariwise in “Apparences” the process does not focus on technical expedient or on conceptual conjectures but towards an aseity due to the intolerance towards the photographic medium. The use of tools such as video equipment or scanners is part of the research that he is now doing and which involves the use of elements that fits the space between the photographer and what is photographed.
